Emergency Preparedness

Emergency Prepared In Your Family?

Would you be prepared at home for a lengthy power outage? A week-long blizzard?

Put together an emergency kit now. Be prepared with a written plan for your family’s safety during a time of crisis.

Think about basic survival needs such as fresh water, food, and clean air.

  • How will you keep warm in inclimate weather?
  • Where could your family meet if separated?
  • Does anyone in your family have a disability?
  • What about prescription medications and other medical supplies?
  • Do you have pets? What about their food, medications, and supplies?

What would you need with you, if you had to leave your home quickly? What things would help you stay safe and comfortable until help arrives?

Winter Emergency Highlights Need For Checklist

Our little town of Wanatah recently showed up in a CNN.com story about wild winter weather across the Midwest. With a recordbreaking 30+ inches of snow, I guess it’s no wonder, but still weird seeing our local BK in a national news piece.

Sure was grateful that my electric stayed on. Thank you, Kankakee Valley REMC!

If only I had noticed beforehand that the yard light had gone out. A working lamp would have made it easier to see how bad the weather was getting, plus those heading down our road would have had another beacon along the way.

One more item to add to a checklist for winter preparedness.
